Julie was smiling widely when the door finally opened, but her grin faltered, when she realized it was Imogen in the doorway, and not Avery. It wasn’t that Julie didn’t like Avery’s siblings, she just wasn’t expecting to see Imogen. Julie enjoyed the short chats that she had with the younger girl. She was quite smart and mature for her age. It was something that Julie wasn’t used to. Sure she had Emily but Emily wasn’t what she would mature. Still, it wasn’t like Julie and Imogen had really spent any time together, other than the occasional conversation while Julie had been forced to wait for Avery to get ready for a date. He always seemed to take longer than Julie did.
Tugging down the back of her skirt, Julie smiled back at Imogen. “Uh, yeah I am actually.” She said, figuring that she might as well take the time to get to know Imogen better, seeing as Avery was obviously absent from the room. “Is Avery getting ready again? You know how guys are with getting all gussied up.” She joked.
Imogen could see the confusion clearly on Julie’s face when she opened the door. Surely she wasn’t expecting to see her answering the door, she was always off in some far corner of the house where she didn’t actually bother getting up to get the door, there was always someone closer than her. “I’m not sure that he is here actually..” She trailed off, looking over her shoulder and up the stairs in the direction of his room “I haven’t seen him since breakfast this morning but you are welcome to go up and look for him if you’d like. For all I know he could be off sleeping somewhere”.
After one more look behind her, her eyes sweeping from the staircase to her sewing machine that was just about visible, sitting on the table, she turned her attention back to Julie, a small friendly smile hinting on her lips. “Did you guys have plans?” She asked curiously.
